The features and functionality of modern mobiles continues to advance at a staggering rate
. Everyone wants the latest designed loaded with the newest and best functions. No wonder then that old and not so old handsets are starting to pile up as we continually upgrade.
What is it that we do with all these old phones? Have a look through your drawers and cupboards. There you go. Found at least two old handsets have you?! Instead of just shoving them away and forgetting about them, you could recycle mobile phones. We're pretty bad at it in the UK presently. Only about one in five old handsets are being recycled.
Making an effort to recycle mobile phones is very important from an environmental perspective. Phones contain toxic substances. These include cadmium and lead. If mobiles aren't disposed of properly they can harm the environment and humans. This harm can take the form of diseases like lung cancer for example. Still want to leave that old mobile hanging around in the drawer?!
Most of us are pretty well intentioned when it comes to environmental matters, it's just a case of showing people the way and pointing them in the right direction. So what's involved if you want to recycle mobile phones? Some network providers and charities might be happy to take them off your hands and repair or dispose of them for you. However, specialist mobile recycling companies will take your old phone and pay you cash for your mobile. You might have seen adverts on TV. What could be better! Make a bit of extra cash and do something green at the same time.
The process is very simple. Bag up the phone in pre paid envelope and send it off. Depending on the condition and the model, a fair fee for your old phone will be determined and a cheque posted out to you. So clear out your drawers and cupboards. De-clutter, make a few quid and help save the planet.
