How to Keep Post Cards Low Cost
The other advantage of postcards is the relatively low cost. A small postcard - black text, white card, no graphics, nothing fancy - will be anywhere from about 25 or 30 cents at the low end to about 40 or 50 cents at the high end. So they are relatively inexpensive.
The larger postcards are going to be anywhere from about 40 cents to maybe a dollar. That is still pretty cost effective.
The cost is dependent on a couple of things. It depends on whether you do both sides - there's a small extra charge for doing the second side - and whether you're using color. Also some addresses can cost more, depending on your list. I'm not sure why, but the post office has certain addresses that I guess are not conformed properly or something like that and they will charge you extra to deliver to those addresses.
Obviously the size matters. The smaller size and the larger size will dictate terms of price. Overall postcards are relatively cost effective. That's why it certainly should be one of the mainstays of your marketing campaign.
How to Create the Basic Format
The basic format of the card is you should have a pre-headline that goes probably in the upper left hand corner. It should say, "Attention home owners" or "Attention landlords." It can be, "Attention pre-foreclosure" or something of that nature if you want. It's whatever you want that to be. You can put something like, "Are you behind on your payments?" That's a pre-headline.
Then bigger and bolder you would have your headline. It's very important that you have a strong headline. If you don't have a strong headline, basically the card gets thrown away. There will be little interest in the remainder of the card.
Then you have the body or the message. It's your story or your message that you tell them why it makes sense for them to be interested in doing business with you. It could be a story or it could be services such as buying homes. You want to have a message that's somewhat interesting and appealing to somebody who might have a property that they're looking to sell and are motivated.
Next is you have to have a call to action. You must have a good, strong call to action. You may be asking them to call you for a free report, email you, or go to your website - however it is you want them to reach out to you. You can go to a Facebook page, I don't care. Whatever you want them to do, make sure it's very clear and it's very compelling.
Make sure that you're giving something away of value. Give away a free report, free information, free consultation, whatever it is. It has to be something that you're giving away for free that the other perceives as having some value and would be very interested in trying to get whatever it is you're giving away.
Then you might have a PS or even a PSS. These are post messages if you want to highlight your call to action, invite them again, however it is you want to do that. Those are optional. Typically you would have at least one postscript.
That is the basic format of the postcard. If you go to the download page there are three samples there I'm giving you guys. You can use them, manipulate them, change and craft them to fit your needs.
