Online Home Businesses
Share: If you're considering giving up the nine to five grind to start one of the many online home businesses, you are not alone
. According to the Small Business Association, over half of US small businesses are home businesses. That number is expected to increase. Home-based businesses aren't for everyone. They require a special type of person to succeed. While deciding if one is right for you, keep these things in mind.
Are you willing to put in the time and effort? Online home businesses require a degree of commitment. In a traditional workplace, your co-workers can pick up the slack. When you own your own business, it falls on you to be sure that things are done.
Are you disciplined? If you are dragging your feet on finishing a project, there is no boss to prod you to get it done. You are the boss. You have to have to be able to motivate yourself to meet your deadlines.
Can you multi-task? In home businesses, you have to play several roles-boss, employee, customer service, accountant, etc. If you are a work at home parent, that adds another layer of responsibility to your plate. You have to be flexible to be sure all areas of responsibility are taken care of.
Share: Are you comfortable with little interaction with others? Online home businesses can be lonely. In traditional workplaces, you get to interact with other employees. When you work from home, you don't have that option. While it may be nice not having to listen to a co-worker who insists on regaling you with details of her love life, if you are a social person, you may feel stifled without people nearby to talk to.
Can you afford the investment? Home businesses tend to be cheaper to begin than traditional small businesses, but there are still some costs. You may have to pay for web hosting, someone to design your website if you don't know how, payment processing, licenses or permits if your area requires it or stock. Depending on your business, you may also need to hire an attorney or accountant as well.
Are you comfortable promoting your business? All businesses, including online home businesses, require advertising of some sort to succeed. If you aren't comfortable promoting yourself or your business, how are customers supposed to find you.
Can you handle it when things don't go well? Despite your best efforts, chances are you will have something not go right during the course of your business. It may be a missed sale, a problem with your website or something else. Owners of home businesses have to be able to pick themselves back up and keep going. This is especially true if the problem is with your finances. If things aren't going well, can you weather a dry spell where you have no income from your business?
Online home businesses can be what you need to change your life. They can open the door to new opportunity, give you more time with loved ones and help you finally do all the things you have dreamed of.
