Nintendo 3DS Preview
Following the success of Nintendo's DS and DSi devices, here's one of the most anticipated (well, it feels like waiting forever for its release) portable game consoles, the Nintendo 3DS. Coming out on the 25th of March with a release price of around $250.00, here's my personal Nintendo 3DS review.
What's in store for us?
It's similar from its predecessors, two screens. At the top, for 3D images, with 3.5 inch of 800x240 pixels and the bottom, for touchscreen functionality, with 3 inch of 320x240 pixels. It has a motion sensor and a gyro sensor which provides a whole new way of gaming, much like with the iPhone and Wii. You tilt or twist as to experience the feeling of driving or flying games.
Let's go deeper in our Nintendo 3DS review. The 3D scene (my favorite part) is at first, like looking to a double image. But gradually, as your eyes adjusts, these two images merge to make your 3D experience. Sounds magical to me, I guess. The 3D Depth Slider helps your eyes to process the scene by adjusting the different images being fed to your eyes rather than assisting how much 3D you can cope up.
One interesting feature is that the 3DS can take 3D pictures. How? The idea is quite simple and brilliant. The dual cameras at the back take blurry pictures. These are fed up to the software and the two pictures are tweak to render a 3D image.
Then there's the 3D movie experience, but I think it's more of a layered 2D experience. Nonetheless, the feeling of not wearing 3D glasses is much more appreciated than the idea itself.
Don't forget the games! There are many dedicated 3D games to be released that you can play in 3DS, and also it is backward compatible with the other DS games. You can also download via internet 3D games and movies, and play online.
All in all for our Nintendo 3DS review, is a thumbs up to its 3D effect. Also, thumbs up for the mechanical slider which helps the adjustment of the depth of the image, and the smooth controls and built-in WiFi. On the negative side, I'm really disappointed with its low-resolution cameras, only 0.3 megapixels. But then again, not to appreciate Nintendo 3DS for a cheap camera will defeat the purpose of gaming. The 3DS' dual screen, 3D scene, and enhanced microphone have brought a new function in the age of portable gaming consoles.
