Need Just A Little Extra Cash?
Share: Whether it's to pay the bills during lean times
, save for a special vacation, or get ready for the holidays, we all go through periods of time where we are always hoping for just a little extra cash. Sometimes that means we need to clean out our closets and making some sales.
Regardless of the reason motivating you, you certainly want to get top dollar for the things you sell. Who doesn't? That is why I want to share with you the strategies I have developed to help me raise the money I want or need.
Many people make the mistake of hosting a yard sale or garage sale when they are hoping to pocket some extra green, especially when they have clothing to sell. The truth is, most people have little success in selling clothes off a blanket on their lawn, and when they do, they don't get much more than a quarter per item, even for those designer jeans or blouses.
To get top dollar for high-quality garments, browse the web to find consignment shops in your area that take the type of clothing you are hoping to sell. You will get the most value if you opt for store credit, which is perfect if you are trying to snag some cash for some new threads, but if not, the cash you can make will still beat putting on a yard sale.
However, be aware that some consignment shops don't offer cash at all. Call and ask before bundling up your old attire for a trip down there. Keep in mind that there are also consignment stores specializing in antique or boutique-style furniture and decorations.
If you don't have any luck at such shops, then try to amass a multi-family yard sale. Many items in varying categories are more likely to attract buyers than just a few stray pieces of clothing.
When it comes to getting the most for eclectic items like books, video games, or other electronics, you will be most benefited by setting your own price and listing them in classified ads or on direct-sell websites. The only trouble with classified ads is that buyers go there to find something for the lowest price possible, and you are obviously not guaranteed a sale.
Instead, try to find a large-scale buyer that specifically lists what they are willing to pay for the items you have to sell. There are many websites and stores that will sell games for you, or books, or mobile phones, so check those out before you turn to listing in the classified ads. Then you know exactly what you can expect to get for the things you have to sell.
