The rationale is that doing so will help lighten the load on their Customer Service personnel, and may even help expand their customer base. By providing the free training website, homeowners and do-it-yourselfers will be introduced to the fact that they can make their own concrete products for about 10% of what they've been buying them for at retailers and distributors. And if interested in starting a small business, the information on the website is a great starting point.
For over eighteen years, Olde World Molds has designed and manufactured molds, or moulds, used with concrete, cement, and plaster to make manufactured stone and brick veneer, and many other stone products. These are normally used around the home and garden by builders, contractors, and landscapers to replace high-cost, heavy natural stone. And now, thanks to companies like Olde World, molds and free instructions are now readily available to the entrepreneur, do it yourselfer, and crafts person so they can save even more. According to the company's president, "our step-by-step instructions and our training website, make it so easy to create authentic-looking stone that virtually anyone can make it!" Interestingly, their most recent marketing research identified women visitors to their websites as accounting for over 55% of their customer base. Maybe part of the reason for that is the company's claim that making stone is easier than baking a cake--- except that no oven is needed for stone. Or maybe it's that women are just naturally more creative and willing to try things.
When asked what was covered on the new training and instructions website, the company stated that there were articles and instructions available on everything from concrete mix designs to finishing techniques to installing concrete stone products. What is now happening is that every time the company receives a question from one of their customers that has not been covered on the instructions website, the answer is provided to the customer directly.
