Ahh... this may be harder to answer once you think about it for a minute. I tried
to "Google" it and there was no clear or direct explanation or definition. So, I am taking it upon myself to figure it out and tell you.After some quick investigating it seems that jewelry watches come in many forms. The first and most obvious explanation is that any luxury watch that features diamonds or other precious stones anywhere on it (the face, bezel or strap) makes it a jewelry watch. Now, if the watch is manufactured in gold, then that also places it in the "jewelry watch" category.
Since jewelry watches are special and more often than not will be sparkling with diamonds, they make great gifts - anniversary or graduation gift or even a "push present" - which is what a woman gets after delivering a baby from her adoring husband. A luxury watch is also a great gift because it is something that can be passed down from generation to generation and will last a lifetime.
Certain brands specialize in making what we now refer to as a jewelry watch, especially if we think about the ones that are seriously bejeweled. Whether it's a coincidence or not, these specific brands also happen to reign supreme in the world of diamond rings, earrings and other luxury goods decorated in all types of precious stones (rubies, sapphires, emeralds and set in gold, platinum, etc.).
Chopard, Cartier and Chanel are a few that come to mind and are also all producers of both men's and women's luxury watches. Cartier watches are some of the most coveted and Chanel made one of the top selling woman's watch of all time - the J12 (in all black or all white, with diamonds of course). On a less expensive scale you will find beautiful jewelry watches from brands like Michele and Omega. Michele watches exclusively produces jewelry watches for women. All of Omega's collections for women (like the Constellation, Seamaster and Specialties to name a few) include models that fit this category.
Raymond Weil just came out with a new collection called Noemia that features two beautiful and elegant women's jewelry watches. Like Michele watches, Raymond Weil timepieces are not as expensive as Cartier or Omega, but allow you to still purchase and wear a classic watch crafted from precious metals and diamonds.
Jewelry watches are not just for women. Men also like to wear diamonds on their wrists and one need not look farther than pop culture to know that big, blinged out watches are popular among "manly men" like Jay Z, P Diddy and many other rappers.
If you don't quite dig the super blinged out men's watches there are more discreet men's jewelry watches available. For example, the De Ville Collection by Omega Watches is one. One of the men's watches from this collection is called Platinum Ice, measures 41mm and has a mother-of-pearl dial and 24 baguette diamonds (4.8 carats total), but when you look at it, you're not blinded.
Movado is another company that creates jewelry watches for men. Movado is all about simplicity and elegance, so you won't find any super shiny watches here. The Faceto men's watch and the Juro Diamond men's watch are two nice examples.
