James Burns Pb31sp Manual 3:1 Pitch Wire Binding Machine Review

Wire binding is one of the most aesthetically pleasing binding methods around

. This type of binding has been used to create beautiful books and calendars as well as professional-looking documents created by real estate agents, office workers, and other professionals. One of the best features about wire binding is that it allows your document to lay flat when it is open and you can also turn the covers and pages around a full 360 degrees. But to take advantage of this style, you need the right machine. One option is the James Burns PB31SP Manual 3:1 Pitch Wire Binding Machine. This is a device that just came on the market and there are some great things about it. Here are the strengths and weaknesses of the PB31SP.

Strengths:

* The PB31SP can work with both Wire-O and Double-O binding spines. It can close spines ranging in thickness from 1/4" to 1-1/4" inches. This is the whole range of sizes for these spines, so this product is really versatile.

* The punching mechanism of this device can punch 10 sheets of paper in one lift. It can bind documents that are up a half inch thick with wire binding spines that are up to 9/16" in diameter.

* The PB31SP has 38 fully disengageable dies that can be removed as needed. This means you can create your own hole patterns depending of the desired look of your document. The throat measures 13 inches across.

* This is a device that will punch holes in a 3:1 pitch pattern. This means three holes will be punched for every inch of paper. This hole pattern can also be used with 3:1 pitch coil and with GBC Proclick binding spines.

* There's even a hanger on the front of the unit that makes preparing and finishing your documents super easy.

* The PB31SP is 19 inches wide and 12 inches deep. It is large enough to bind letter-sized documents but not so big it will take up too much room. It weighs about 24 pounds, so it's not too heavy either.

* This device has a very unique D-shaped handle which is great because it means it can be used by everybody no matter if they are right- or left-handed. Many binding machines have handles on either the right- or left-hand side of the machine. That can make using the device difficult for some people.

Weaknesses:

* This product is available for the suggested retail price of $495.00. This isn't necessarily a bad price for a machine with disengageable dies. However, in the current economy, that sort of price might not be low enough for some potential users.

* As previously mentioned, the PB31SP can only bind documents that will be 1/2" thick or less. This will be a problem for users who need to bind thicker booklets. Users who need to bind thicker documents with wire should really consider a 2:1 pitch wire binding system.

If you need a wire binding machine, the James Burns PB31SP would be an excellent choice as long as you will only be binding booklets up to 1/2" thick and you can foot the $495.00 bill. This really is a good machine, so if it seems right for you, you should go ahead and get one for your workplace.
