How To Save Money When Buying Boy's Clothes

How To Save Money When Buying Boy's Clothes

Kid's clothing has always been a bone of contention for parents the world over. Clothing for kids is notoriously expensive, given the fact that the majority of children grow at an exceedingly fast pace, and so, although item for item, kid's clothing is much better value than adult clothing, the fact that they need replacing more often means that in the long run, they are more expensive.

The current global economic crisis has meant that many of us have lost a significant part of our disposable income, and as such, are looking for as many ways as possible of saving money. Unfortunately, parents will continue to feel the effects of the downturn in the economy, particularly with the recent government cuts, which experts are stipulating will reduce the amount of disposable income per family by up to 2000 a year.

Kid's clothes are a necessity, so there is no getting around the fact that we will need to spend money on a frequent basis when it comes to our kids. However, there are a few tips that will help you to make the most of your boy's clothes budget.

Sizing

We all know that children grow fast, and boys grow particularly fast, so one of the first pieces of advice we have is to plan. You know that in several months time your child will be taller, so, if you are in a shop and you find a bargain, for instance if the item is on sale, you should purchase the clothing in the child's current size, but also in a bigger size. When the child reaches that size, they will be able to wear the clothes, and you will have saved money, as the same item will probably be full price when the sales are not on.

A great way of planning is to buy clothing in the seasonal sales for the following year, you will know roughly what sizes they will be wearing, and if you buy the clothes in the sale, you will save money in the long term.

Second-hand Clothing

In general, children will not even realise that they are wearing second-hand clothing, so will not mind. There are many charity run companies that hold second-hand clothes jumbles', where you will be able to find many bargains. A vast majority of boy's clothing in such sales will actually be brand new, and often this is because children outgrow their clothes before they have time to wear them. Post-Christmas jumbles are probably the best time to shop, because many children would have received clothes that either they do not like, or which do not fit, so there will be many new items.

Look after Children's Clothes

Children are notoriously messy, and frequently ruin their clothes. Nothing you can do to stop this, but there are ways that you can preserve the clothes they do not ruin. Make sure that you always follow the care instructions on the inside label, always wash coloured clothing at a low heat and with a special colour care' detergent.
