Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2010

Share: At the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit (HT Summit)
, you can hear global powers-that-be talk about what they believe in and how the world is run. The Summit offers an exceptional opportunity for global icons to put forth their views honestly. Since entry is by invitation only, extended to only the most powerful, the brightest and the best in their fields, there is little scope for the speakers to hem and haw and avoid answering directly. Instead, they use the presence of an intelligent audience as a platform to speak honestly and freely about what they truly believe in and how they are trying to make a difference.
The Summit encourages interaction and exchange of thoughts, giving the audience an equal opportunity to voice their opinions, ask questions, make suggestions and, eventually, build lasting solutions for the country.
The HT Summit of 2010 will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Manmohan Singh. Day 2 will see the much-loved, much-hated but never-ignored former President of the United States of America, Mr. George W. Bush, who will explain the view-point behind his decisions. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Sushma Swaraj, Richard Hadlee, Sunil Gavaskar, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, all stalwarts in their respective fields, be they politics, cricket or Bollywood, will address the audience on diverse, critical issues of their forte.
The Summit leaders, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor need little introduction. The former, born to ace cricketer, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, and yesteryear Bollywood heartthrob, Sharmila Tagore, nevertheless carved and tread his own, distinct path to fame and stardom. The versatile actor has performed admirably in roles that range from romantic to comedy to edgy in movies like Dil Chahta Hai, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Hum Tum, Parineeta and Omkara. He is also the ambassador for an array of big brands including Airtel, General Motors, Head & Shoulders, Lays, Asian Paints and Taj Mahal Tea.
Hailing from the immensely successful actor family, the Kapoors, Kareena could only be described as having acting in her very blood. She is the reigning queen of Bollywood and her performances appeal to both urban and rural audiences. She has given memorable performances in movies like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Jab We Met and endorses Airtel, Anne French, Chronotech, Kurkure Desi Beats and Vivel. The two Bollywood stars will address the Summit on 31st October.
The topic being Vision 2020: Challenges for the Next Decade, Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Indias largest private sector enterprise, Reliance Industries Ltd., has shared his views on the decade that was and the future that will be.
Stepping into the 21st century had come to symbolize unprecedented hope and promise and many governmental and business organizations in India and around the globe set ambitious targets and inspirational goals for themselves. He himself writes, As I peer into the next decade, I see exciting new opportunities and also major new responsibilities beckoning India. The world economic order is changing dramatically with the rise of Asia, especially the ascent of India and China. Along with the economic order, the political one too is changing and Indias political, governmental, business and civil society leaders will have to work with a stronger spirit of partnership to enable India to assume leadership responsibility on the global stage in three main areas: Sustainable Development, International Institution-Building, Technology, Innovation and Human Resource Enrichment.
Of the first, he shares that switching over to a low-carbon economy on a war footing has become a planetary imperative to avert the disastrous effects of climate change. Therefore, we must adopt energy-water-ecology conservation practices as a sacred mantra in the coming decade. Simultaneously, we should cooperate with countries around the world to do the same on a mutually advantageous basis is Mukesh Ambanis view.
The world having changed fundamentally since World War II, international institutions must reflect the emerging realities of today and tomorrow and to quote RILs CMD, India's leadership footprint has to become much larger in this new institutional renewal effort.
Besides, given its youthful demographic profile, strong scientific base, and the upsurge in ambition and capability in diverse areas of entrepreneurship, India today stands on the cusp of a historic opportunity to emerge as a leader in technology creation, innovation, and, above all, in provision of skilled services to countries around the world.
With its high and sustained growth rate and its resilience against the global economic downturn, India has acted like an engine of growth for not only its own economy but also for that of the world. A specific contribution has been the rapid but responsible empowerment of the entrepreneurial community and Mukesh Ambani, CMD, Reliance thanks the countrys leader, Mr. Manmohan Singh, for bringing in this change.
All of us holding interest in this grand congregation of international icons and wishing to watch the future of the world unfold before our very eyes can do so by reading the regular updates in the Hindustan Times daily newspaper and viewing the live telecast carried by CNN-IBN.
