Share: Winter has arrived in the US
Winter has arrived in the US. For most of us, it is cold and snowy. It's dark in the morning when we wake up to go to work, and it's dark in the evening when we leave our buildings and hit the nighttime commute. We're sick more often, tired more often, and generally more irritable. When the alarm goes off in the pitch-black morning and you're lying in bed, that's probably the time when you best understand the current trend in people trying to get work from jobs.
But despite how nice it "seems" it would be too work from home, there is a lot to consider before making that move. First of all, there are many different areas that make up the work at home market. The first, and simplest, is "inbox dollars" - signing up for a program that will email you projects and pay you once their completed. The most common and well known "inbox dollars" method is being paid to complete online surveys.
While the "inbox dollars" method seems fairly simple and straightforward - and it is - the problem is that it probably pays the least of any work at home area. While it's not impossible to make a decent wage with this particular method, you would have to put in the hours (upon hours) to get the payout. In general, the "inbox dollars" method seems to be better for a supplemental income, than the "quitting my day job" income.
Another area of work at home jobs that is well advertised is telecommuting. Telecommuting is probably the most similar to the job you do know, except that you would complete your projects at home. You would be hired by a company, given a set schedule, assigned an hourly wage and potential benefits, and you would be given projects to complete on a certain timeline. While these jobs range in time commitments and pay scale, they don't tend to put people on the "get rich quick" path. Rather, these are the types of jobs that guarantee a steady paycheck from the comfort of your own home.
Finally, the last major work at home job category is "online business systems." Online business systems is a general term that encompasses any opportunity or plan where you work for yourself using the Internet as your main medium. An online business system would vaguely incorporate the idea of blogging, as long as you were paid for your advertising space, to affiliate marketing, or creating a website that you maintained which sold your - or someone else's - products.
The online business systems are the work at home jobs that have the biggest potential to pay the highest dividends. The problem is that they are also the most unreliable. There is no steady paycheck, and often the pay is lowest when you'll be putting the most of hours of work. Before you decide to give up your "day job" sit and consider what kind of risks you'd be willing to take and what kind of motivation and determination you really have to make this pay off - you might decide that your current job doesn't seem so bad after all.
