Focus Is Necessary For Online Business Success

Share: We live in a world of distractions
We live in a world of distractions. Be it in business or in our personal lives, it is easier to lose sight of whatever it is you intend to so than to actually get on with what we endeavor to embark on in the first place. Sometimes, it's like going down from your bedroom to the kitchen to retrieve something, only to ask yourself, "why did I come in here again? " And no, I don't think its dementia, it's just that on the way to the kitchen you saw something else that needed to be done. Perhaps the missing sock, or the key you left on the table or a squirrel tapping on the window pane. You get what I mean. Efforts need to be exerted to manage the distractions that bombard us by the minute.
Let me illustrate with how we do things online. Perhaps you intend to just cross verify some data or to find some links to address your questions. As you this, you will come across an overwhelming amount of information to look at and sift through. You see, I think there is in all of us the "I just got to check something real quick" factor and as we are on our way to the page, we come across a rather interesting link, and so we click on...and on...and on...until... hours have passed. Add to that the email, instant messages and even short message services. After all that, we just have to call it a day. Voila! The time you have originally set to undertake whatever needs to be done is postponed again for tomorrow. Allow this to go on and on, and you will have little or no accomplishments in terms of your home based online business.
Indeed, one of the biggest challenges home-based entrepreneurs encounter is getting and staying focused. This is true for anyone who works at home, setting their own schedules, managing their own time, and all in the midst of an environment that is a both personal and a family domain. There is simply no argument about it. We need to get focused and to stay focused.
Great! So just how do we do that? What can be done to get and stay focused so that we can get closer to our goals?
Picture Your Future! I call it a Vision. It is also a Dream It is picturing your future in your mind as you'd like to be in a set amount of time say 6 months or even a year or longer, and even move farther than that "x years" from now. Include everything that comes to mind - family, home, income, social, spiritual, things you dream of having and doing. Write these down in a journal. write them as of the're already come about and keep the focus positive. Spend some time everyday working with this list, Some write and even speak affirmations. Do what works best for you to fire up the feeling you'll have when these things actually happen for you.
Set Your Goals! Turn your dreams your dreams into attainable realities by mapping out the steps needed to achieve your objectives. Like, "what things can be done in my online business to move my goals forward?" Then zoom in one of your shorter term goals, and break them down into steps. Once you've accomplished a few of these, you'll feel more confident and better able to focus on your longer-term goals. You feel that you're goals are too lofty? Try the "eating the elephant" approach. It's taking a gigantic goal and splitting them into more specific goals that can be achieved.
Create a Specific Plan of Action! Of the things needed to achieve these goals, what things can you begin this week? Write them down. If your prefer checklists, put a box beside the items in your list and cross them out as you finish them. Is it to network? Is it to sign up in opt-in lists? Is it to do traffic exchanges? The more specific you become, you are likely to undertake them.
Set Dates for Completion! We don't have all the time in the world. We have to set deadlines and do our best to meet them. Just in case, we don't, we realistically pick up the pieces, embark again and endeavor to meet the new deadline.
Schedule Work Time! Some people do their best marketing in long blocks of time while others prefer short but more frequent work periods. Keep in mind your most productive method and your other commitments, block out your marketing time on a calendar that you see daily.
Stay Focused within Reason. Remove distraction that can be ignored. Distinguish the "important" from the "urgent". Maybe this means setting your IM to "away" and closing your inbox. Buffer yourself from whatever distracts you that doesn't need immediate attention. Figure out a way to let family members know you're working. You can be creative and get their cooperation like closing the home office door. When your working and get stuck on something, take a short walk outside, do some deep breathing and some stretches.
With that said, take hold of your dreams! Translate them into goals then break these goals down into tasks. Undertake the steps needed to accomplish those tasks. Set your schedules and stick with them. When those days come that you feel you haven't accomplished much, forgive yourself, move on and start fresh.
