First Ten Areas Of Focus For Agency-wide Policy Review Public Survey Announced By Uscis
In order to sort out the issue areas that need to be examined
, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a survey in April 2010, requesting help from any member of the public or the USCIS employees. USCIS has recently publicized the results of this USCIS Policy Review. The agencys customer service procedures, policies, and guidance were reviewed through the USCIS Policy Review.
The Policy Review was responded by 5,600 stakeholders, including immigrant and
non-immigrant visa holders, immigration attorneys, advocates, and employers. Besides the stakeholders, USCIS also received nearly 2,400 responses from its own employees. The survey results helped USCIS to determine the top ten issue areas that needed immediate attention.
Nonimmigrant H-1B Status, National Customer Service Center (NCSC,) Employment Authorization Documents (EAD,) Refugee and Asylum Adjustment of Status, Naturalization in special cases and Citizenship, Family-Based Adjustment of Status, Employment-based Immigration Status, Employment-Based Adjustment of Status, Form I-601, and other Humanitarian Programs were included in the top ten issue area list.
The USCIS Policy Review was a four step process which began with gathering of information. All the existing policy documents, including training manuals, guidance memo, and operational guidance were collected by USCIS from all USCIS offices across the country, which were then categorized into appropriate issue areas.
Once the issue areas were categorized, a survey was issued to the public and employees of USCIS by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in April 2010. After a thorough analysis of the survey, USCIS arrived at the top ten issue areas that required attention.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is now bringing workgroups together to carry out the review process. Subject matter experts have been sought for help to begin with the review. To serve the public better, USCIS will be in contact with them and take up their feedback. On the basis of the agencys goals, requirements, and responses, USCIS will determine the course of action for every issue area. The policies, after their approval will be consolidated into a single electronic resource available for both employers and the public.
