Finding the Perfect Balance in a Texas Home Security System

As with many decisions you'll have to make when moving into a new home, it's important not to be drawn too far in one direction or another with a home security system in Texas. Finding the right balance is going to be the key to your success in every case. You can't be too lax, yet you can't institute a prison-like security apparatus, either. Follow these ideas when you want to strike the perfect balance between strength and comfort in your Texas home security plan.

1. Seal the windows but not the escape routes. Putting bars on the windows is the sure-fire way to know no one is getting inside your home via the windows. The problem is it is also the way to ensure no one will get out that way, either. If you are worried about windows as spots for criminals to enter, have them sealed with protective coating to prevent smashes, or add window sensors which can connect to your home alarm system. Opening windows from the inside will never be a problem in case of fire or another emergency, plus it's a far better look than window bars.

2. If security cameras are on your radar, keep them out of your family's comfort zone. Psychological comfort is really what families want, and that can be hard to attain knowing security cameras are monitoring your movements in every room. If you have had an issue which pointed to the need for surveillance, be careful about bringing it inside the house. Some cameras outside, on the other hand, should never cause any problems.

3. Make sure your motion sensors aren't too sensitive. Motions sensors can be another tricky device you use in conjunction with a home alarm system. On the one hand, you want the best options on the market today; on the other hand, you don't want to be setting off an alarm every time you go to the kitchen for a drink of water. Make sure your motion sensors are strong enough for your protection, but flexible enough so they don't intimidate the family into staying in their respective rooms.

4. Use door stops and peepholes instead of bulletproof doors. You can go all Fort Knox in your home, but your spouse and children might start to look at you askance. Is there really a need for a high-powered iron-clad front door? If you expect Mad Max to ram down your door soon, perhaps; otherwise, using peepholes and the type of door stops common in hotels is probably more than enough for your security plan.

5. Take it easy with weapons. While weapons might point to increased home security, you may actually be adding risk to a home that is unnecessary. Statistics say that most robberies present little to no need for weapons, whether it is a firearm or some other defense device. Consider the fact that you might be endangering your family members with weapons, or at least making them far more uncomfortable than they need to be.
