Episode Review The Mentalist Pink Chanel Suit
As the Pink Chanel Suit episode begins we arrive at a funeral of the mother of Federal Judge Pauline Fitz-William (Cristine Rose)
. Pauline requests that her daughter Sophie go and find her sister Abbey as she has not yet appeared at the funeral. Sophie arrives in Abbey's room and lets out a scream as she uncovers Abbey's boyfriend dead on the bedroom floor. Abbey's boyfriend appeared to have been stabbed in the back.
Agent Cho (Tim Kang) and Agent Lisbon (Robin Tunney) are called to the scene and it isn't until a while later that Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) arrives. As they investigate the murder of Sophie's boyfriend Austin the team realizes that Abbey hasn't yet been located. Due to the high ranking nature of the Judge and her estate the property remains under heavy security scrutiny by the security team. They stated that Abbey entered the estate the previous morning and nobody saw her leave since. This of course confuses the team as they believe Abbey to be a suspect in the murder.
Patrick Jane arrives more than fashionably late as usual, making a scene with the security guard as he questions why he needs to go through the metal detector. Jane insists that the head of security go through the metal detector as well, and as he does Jane keeps putting metal items in his pockets. This was a very funny scene.
The crowd is shocked when Patrick Jane announces that Abbey has most likely been murdered and is hidden somewhere on the estate. He confirms this after he tries to steal the rug from Pauline's office (because it resembled the size of an adult body) to see if he could get by security. The security team quickly spots Jane trying to break through the weakest point in their security proving that Abbey could not have left the grounds.
Jane then makes a wild statement that he believes that Abbey is buried with Judge Pauline's mother in her casket. The timing of the speech was a classic Jane maneuver as well making it during the funeral ceremony. The family being quite upset by the thought of opening the casket agrees to humor Jane believing he is correct. Jane is proven wrong as the casket is opened by Dr. Saban to reveal only the body of the Judge's mother.
This of course was just Jane's ruse to determine the reactions of the suspects to find the guilty party. Jane and Lisbon end up hiding by the casket overnight to eventually catch the killer. Dr. Saban, who had been helping Abbey with her drug addiction, accidentally gave Abbey and overdose and killed her. Dr. Saban panicked when he killed Abbey and ended up killing her boyfriend as well when he walked in on the failed procedure. The doctor was able to hide Abbey's body but need to get rid of it soon so it wouldn't be found during the investigation. Jane provided him with the idea and he got caught trying to execute it.
