As the title suggests, in this article I am going to expose the ugly truth that many
so called top professional skin care products have been hiding from you for a long time. When I first discovered the facts myself I was so enraged that I wanted to do something about this. It was then I decided to come up with a list of facts that consumers like you and me never come to know and share the facts with as many people as possible. Cosmetics Industry is a US$50 Billion industry; with so much money involved you can very well imagine the stakes. You will be surprised to know that FDA or any other government agency doesn't have any what so ever control over the cosmetics industry. That means there are lot of loopholes in the system that these so called top professional skin care products company can exploit. In fact they have formed a self acclaimed union that regulates them. (Of course with vested interests) Without much discussion lets deep dive into the details. 1. Fragrances They are made by a combination of many harmful chemicals like Allergens, Pthalates, Sensitizers and Neurotoxins. The problem with fragrances is that they are considered as trade secrets, and are covered under the Intellectual Property Act. This gives a blanket protection against publishing the ingredients on the product label. That is why on most of the skin care and cosmetics you see a general term "Fragrance". General side effects include reduced immunity and allergies. By far the most concerning side effect is neurotoxicity i.e. Harm to brain. In mild cases the only effect could be the slow development of brain and in extreme cases it could be Irreversible brain cells and nerve damage. 2. By-products like 1,4 Dioxanes Once again this is an example where law is slightly modified to be used for the benefit of companies. FDA says that all the ingredients used should be listed on the product label, but there is no regulation on listing the harmful by products that are produced during the manufacturing process. One such chemical is 1,4-dioxane. It gets produced as byproduct of a process called "ethyoxylation". This process uses ethylene oxide to make other ingredients less harsh. But do you know that ethylene oxide is a known carcinogen and is banned in EU and other countries. Well, most top professional skin care products company will not agree to all this because their stand is that all these chemicals are in a very small ratio so they can't harm you. But you think yourself when you are exposed to such ingredients day in and day out and via all the cosmetic products that you use like creams, lotions, eye creams, cleansers and moisturizers and that too continuously for years. The effect is going to be exponential. In my opinion top professional skin care Products Company should be a little sensitive towards the consumers and their interest and should not always think about the profits and expansion. As a responsible company these should act and remove such harmful ingredients from their products. But all this is easier said than done, you and me as an end customer cannot wait for these guys to take action, we have to act now. Not only we should shift towards using more natural and effective products that do not contain such harmful products but at the same time we need to spread the word among our friends and family.
