Dfg Titan Comb Review

The DFG Titan Comb is a well-constructed, heavy duty plastic comb binding option

aimed at smaller binderies, print shops, and other organizations who want the ability to bind booklets, proposals, presentations, and reports in a large variety of sizes and thicknesses. Here are some of this machines strengths and weaknesses as we see them.

Strengths:

1.) One great thing about the Titan Comb is that it has a punching capacity that is one of the highest available on the market for this type of machine. At a very impressive twenty eight sheets of twenty pound sheets per lift, we found that our productivity increased at a pretty nice rate when we were putting this machine through its paces.

2.) Another great couple of features, especially at this price point are that the Titan Comb has fully disengageable dies and an open punching throat. What this means to the user is that, although it is designed for letter size sheets, will be able to cleanly punch smaller documents by disengaging some of the punching dies, and you can also punch larger sheets using a fairly easy two step process. Again, we have to state that this is some pretty impressive versatility for this inexpensive a comb binding machine.

3.) The punch depth margin control is a very useful feature that lets the user be in charge of how far from the edge the holes will be punched. This is very important when you will be binding documents of various thicknesses. You will want to punch your holes further in from the edge to assure the durability of larger and thicker documents and closer to the edge for smaller booklets. This feature means that the Titan Comb is capable of binding documents that range in size from three sixteenths to two inches in thickness.

4.) DFG is a fairly new name in the binding machine world, and one of the ways in which they appear to be trying to make a name is by making machines that are clearly built to last. The Titan Comb is no exception, and its all metal heavy duty construction appear to make this machine capable of providing the user with years of trouble free operation.

Weaknesses:

1.) As we stated above, the Titan Comb enjoys a rather large punching capacity for a machine of this type. However, it is important to understand that it is still, after all, a manual machine. If you or your organization is going to want to process high volumes of documents, or you are regularly in somewhat of a time crunch when it comes to doing your binding, you will likely want to look into purchasing a machine that has an electric punch.

2.) The Titan Comb's eleven inch throat makes it an ideal solution for binding documents that are letter sized. Longer documents are possible, as we stated above, when you use a twp step punching process. However this can be a little bit time consuming, and if you are going to need to bind larger documents on a regular basis, it might be wise to find a machine that can do that in one step.

3.) Digital finishing group is still a relative newcomer to the binding machine manufacturing stage. So far, we are impressed with the quality of the equipment that we make. However, they can be a little bit difficult to work with on warranty repairs and customer service issues. That is definitely something to keep in mind when selecting one of their machines.
