Comparing Home Based Business Opportunities
I have spent a lot of time talking about the arena I am in as far as entrepreneurship, but not a lot discussing the other options. So I thought I would review from my standpoint and my observations as someone relatively new to the internet entrepreneur world. There are so many options out there, and I will in no way even touch the surface, but will get so detail for people starting out as to what to look for.
1. Online Surveys. These are where you do surveys of various things from websites to transactions for a third party company for them to give feedback to the place of origin. Some say they are a good source of some residual income, but from my experience they are to time consuming and require you to sign up for things you would never do in reality, all of that for a few pennies. Some don't pay at all, but enter you into a drawing where you could win wonderful prizes! Would rather take my chance with a dollar raffle myself.
2. Mystery Shopping. You are assigned to make purchases that are paid for, with the purpose being to again survey the company and write a survey report back to the mystery shopping company. The biggest problem I have seen with these {by the way my wife is still officially a mystery shopper}, is that the assignments are few and far between if you live in a small town like I do. The pay is decent, but if you only get 1 or 2 assignments a month well it definitely won't pay the bills.
3. Medical Transcriptionist. This is where you transcribe a recording or notes into a official document, obviously by definition mostly for the medical profession. You will need to have good typing skills or you will not be successful. And although I have not done myself, appears there is some upfront requirements that have to be met before you can see any income. My ex-wife actually did this for some years, but claimed to many of her submissions were rejected. I always laugh now and say it was because she wasn't any good at typing!!!
4. Direct Sales. Of course this is where you act as a salesperson, required to make sales to receive commissions on those sales, not unlike a salesperson in the mall or a car lot. Problem for me is, I couldn't sell a glass of water to a dehydrated man in the middle of the desert. Maybe is for you, isn't for me. I would imagine selling via the internet is very similar to selling as a salesperson at the mall, but also would think gaining trust across the internet it tough due to all the scams and frauds out there.
5. Affiliate Marketing. Well naturally I'm going to hype this one! No actually I am going to just try to give facts. The job of an Affiliate Marketer is to drive traffic to a third party site and they are primarily responsible for the sales pitch. The positive here is you don't have to be a sales person to be successful, the key is in having something to offer and be genuine.
There are some other opportunities out there, biggest obstacle as I am sure you are aware if you have spent more than 15 minutes looking is scams and frauds looking to take your money.
