Built Recession-proof Tough

Ford Motor Companies was the only car company that didnt file for bankruptcy during

this great economic depression, and its shown with a steady flow of expansion plans since. This month amid signs of an economic spin, Fords Chief Executive Alan Mulally talked to BBC about plans to expand the brand globally.

Were at the place now where Ford is actually growing around the world, he said in an interview with the BBC this week. The company already announced plans to expand its engine plants in China earlier this week before Mulally surprised the BBC with even greater expansion in the UK.

Talking to Hugh Pym, Mulally said that Ford expected to add additional support in the UK this year as well. The UK is the largest national market creator of motor vehicles outside of the United States, with the world majority of international facilities.

Were actually going to grow our business here in the UK and provide great jobs and great careers in technology and innovation with Ford, he said. Ford is in the position now where theyve taken the tough restructuring actions, [and] theyre always going to be thinking about how we can take on our tough competitiveness, but weve now invested in new products that people really do want and value.

Even during this economic crisis, Ford invested US$500 million into a new engine plant in Chongquing, China. The venture with Changan Ford Mazda Automotive Ltd, who signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chongquing Municipal Government toward a new facility. Specifically the new project is between Changan Motors, Ford Motor Company and Mazda Motor Company.
