Are Shipping Prices Negotiable?

When you use a courier company to move your goods or products

, you typically call them or go to their website and provide them with all the details of your shipment. Then, they will provide you with a quote as too how much the delivery is going to cost you. Most people assume this is the end of it, and will simply pay whatever their Chicago Messenger Service quotes them. In reality though, there is a far greater degree of flexibility in the pricing provided by the courier industry than you might at first realize.

Many courier companies can negotiate to a certain degree on their pricing structure for deliveries. The thing to remember is that not everyone in a courier company may have this power. You will probably have to talk to a manager or an owner in order to discuss lowering your rates in any way. The next time you speak to someone at your courier company, simply ask them who might have the power to discuss negotiating a preferred rate on your account.

You have to become proactive if you want to get a discount on your shipping prices. You need to contact the courier company and ask them outright if there is room for negotiation. You will often find that there is. Before you ask them, it is also a good idea to do your research. Look into the rates which are being offered by their competitors, and mention that you have seen the better prices but wish you could stay with the for their customer service. This is often a useful doorway into the negotiation process.

When you are trying to negotiate, it is important that you offer something up if you expect to get something in return. When it comes to negotiating with a courier, what you can offer them is your business. Offer to move all your shipping to their company and a courier will have more to gain by offering you flexibility on your pricing.

Don't try and ask for a lowered rate on one shipment that you're sending somewhere with the courier company. Even if this succeeds, your savings won't amount to much over the long run, even if it is on a huge shipment. Instead, ask for a corporate discount or preferred rate. Even a tiny savings that is applied to all your deliveries will in the long run amount to much more than even the best discount on a single shipment.
