The Ameriplan home business model recently lost a court case with Anthony Anderson.
The verdict was a payment in the amount of $5.5 million in favor of that plaintiff. Out of that money there was $150k given to Anderson, $372,000 allocated for attorney fees, and the rest went to punitive damages to Ameriplan.
He was suing Ameriplan for wrongful termination of his contract. After working with the company for over nine years he stopped getting commissions on Nov 1, 2005. Shortly afterward he filed the lawsuit which came out in his favor on Aug 27th this year.
Anderson worked with this company for a long time. His contract stated that his level his earnings would be a residual lifetime and willable income stream. The court ruled in his favor. Now, it may seem that you wouldn't want to work with this company as a rep.
While it seems that you may want to stay far from the Ameriplan home business opportunity there are some other facts to consider.
Ameriplan has over 75,000 reps working for them. In their history they have not let any of them go without good reason.
The company's board of directors did a thorough investigation. They found tons of evidence that led to Anderson's termination. The board has history of only firing people with just cause and breach of contract. Anderson was indicted with felony theft charges by Brazoria County (Texas) Court. This was the reason for Ameriplan stopping his contract. His criminal trial is scheduled for later this year.
Was it worth it? This guy stole from the company and is possibly going to jail over it. He won the lawsuit and got $150,000. It will be interesting to see what his criminal trial holds for his future.
It is unfortunate that the Ameriplan home business opportunity has had its name tarnished by Anderson.
No matter what industry you are involved with there are always a couple of people who ruin it for every other honest person out there.
The Ameriplan home business model may indeed be a sound business venture. Mr. Anderson apparently broke some laws which consequently led to his contract cancellation. He has won a lawsuit against the company. However, it is likely that Ameriplan will appeal this decision based on the criminal findings against him.
