Clair Phase-I, United Kingdom, Commercial Asset Valuation and Forecast to 2030 - Clair Phase-I field is located 75 Km west of Shetland Island in the North Sea. Clair Phase-I field is at water depth up to 140m and covers an area of 220 square km. It comprises of five license blocks-206/7, 206/12,206/8,206/15 and 206/9. Clair was discovered in 1977. Clair was the largest undeveloped hydrocarbon resource discovery on the United Kingdom Continental Shelf.

BP Plc is operator and program coordinator for Clair Phase-I field with 28.6% equity stake. The other equity partners in the Clair Phase-I partnership are Royal Dutch Shell Plc, ConocoPhillips, and Chevron Corporation.

Clair Phase-I field produces crude oil which is heavy (23.7API), sweet (0.44 % Sulfur) and acidic in nature. The Clair Phase-I field reservoir is made up of fractured sandstones of Devonian to Carboniferous age.

Clair Phase-I has produced 18.59 million barrels of crude oil and 5,944.65 MMcf of natural gas during 2009. The total reserves in the field are estimated to be 5 billion barrels of oil. The phase-I of Clair field comprises of development of Core, Graben and Horst fault block. The total oil in place in the phase-I development blocks is estimated at about 1.75 billion barrels out of which 250 million barrel can be recovered. A sum of $6 billion has been committed for phase-II of Clair development known as Clair Ridge. The target area under this phase is north of field. Phase-II will come online by 2015 with an estimated life of 40 years.

Clair Phase-I is expected to produce about 25 years with complete abandonment by the 2030. Clair Phase-I is expected to generate $17.88 billion in revenue (undiscounted) during its remaining life (starting 1/1/2010) and is expected to yield an IRR of around 45.93%.
