A Cooker/oven Buying Guide
When it comes to buying a new cooker or oven it can be a complicated process especially if you dont have any specific requirements in mind
. Most people when considering buying a new cooker will be either because their current cooker has broken down or it could be due to wanting a better cooker with more advanced features so that people can be more creative and cook a wider range of meals.
The fuel source is often what most people make a decision over first, with electricity or gas being the choice to make. Some homes such as flats may not have gas supplies or want a greater control over the temperature of the oven and so electrical cookers can be a better choice. Some homes will go for a gas cooker as the hob is much more manageable as electrical cookers can stay hot even if you have turned them off much like how an iron works.
The energy efficiency of our appliances is another key point that most people have been aware of in recent years, as well as the cost savings there is also the concerns over carbon emissions so there are now appliances that are available with energy ratings from A G with A being the best with regards to energy efficiency and ones rated G as the ones to avoid. Most companies tend to release the higher up models now and the lower rated ones tend to be older models that may not have the benefits of the modern advancements in energy efficiency.
These modern features can be great to help do the most annoying tasks: oven cleaning. Most modern cookers now have resistant, hard wearing enamel coated interiors that wont attract grease, oil or burnt on food, making them easy to clean, some models can even have what is known as a catalytic stay clean liner that cleans the inner lining at higher temperatures. This is good although you may have to clear out the lower tray whereas top of the range cookers have a self cleaning cycle that actually raises the temperature to 500C so that any dirt of food is carbonised and drops to the bottom of the oven.
One of the key features a lot of electric cookers have is a timer that can either sound an alarm when a certain time is up or it can turn the oven off when the time runs out to prevent food from burning which has helped save many meals from disaster in the past.
When choosing your next cooker make sure you have at least a few of these considerations in your mind, if you are a bit of a budding chef then you may have certain features in mind such as double ovens, dual fuel systems and so when you go to the shops youll need to keep these in mind so you get what you want.
