Throughout the entire state you will experience noticeable extremes in the differences in temperature as you move from noon to evening, but this fact is all the more evident in the desert as ranges (high minus low) have been reported as high as 60 degrees Fahrenheit. There are freezing points as well, in which the lower desert valleys will experience below zero temperatures for various periods of time. The time from one freeze to the next varies exceedingly.
The nice thing about these areas (you East Coasters will love this) is the fact that cities in these low elevation areas usually sport a very low humidity index. Cities such as Quartzsite, Arizona receive on average less than 4 inches of rain in a year. Generally these areas are scorchers, but they remain consistent and ideal for folks who cant stand the mugginess of some Midwest and East Coast cities.
Higher Elevation The Arizona You May Not Have Noticed
Once you reach elevations of 7,000 feet or higher, you start moving into weather that can resemble cities like the San Francisco Bay area (in terms of temperature). The average highs in the summer typically dont top the mid 80s, and you will get as low as the low 40s in the winter. If you are as high as the mountainous regions located in the central and northern areas of the state, you will experience temperatures as low as 35 degrees below Fahrenheit.
