With our economic climate being the way that it is, everyone is looking for new ways of saving money. Of course, we can do a number of things to reduce our weekly outgoings; driving the car less and walking/cycling more, buying more own label brands at the supermarket and cutting down on our visits to local cafes. These will all help to make a difference to our finances, but there are even more things we can try.

If you have at least a smidgen of creativity, then you can save money in all kinds of other ways.

Here are a few different possibilities for you to mull over

Knitting.

A lot of people think that knitting is strictly for older people and that it is seriously uncool. However, there has been a real revival of it over recent years and even many celebrities are taking it up in their spare time!

If you have never tried it out before, then dont be fooled into thinking it is overly difficult. There are plenty of websites that show you how to get started. You may find your first jumper a little tricky to begin with, but you will soon get the hang of it.

Sewing.

Just about every household has a sewing machine lying around and even if you are in the minority, then you can be sure of borrowing one from a friend.

Once you take up sewing, there are all manner of things to make. You could start off with a simple project like cushion covers or pillow cases. There is some beautiful Silk fabric to choose from online and it will work out far cheaper than buying readymade items.

Woodwork.

You would be amazed at how simple it is to make something like a coffee table, even when you have never worked with wood before. So much timber is thrown away be people when it could be turned into something really useful!

If you dont have it in you to design your own furniture, then you will find plenty of downloadable plans on the net. Making your own things from wood can be great fun and it will also give you a real sense of achievement.

Gardening.

How about growing your own vegetables? Not only is this a great way of reducing your grocery bill, but it is a far healthier option too. Even if you do not have a proper garden, then you can plant potatoes in special grow bags and you windowsill is an adequate place for pots of herbs.

You are probably beginning to see that there are all kinds of ways to save even more money. And once you begin doing any of these things, they will rapidly become a habit.
