Bharatpur is a small yet popular tourist destination located in Rajasthan. Due to impregnable defence system the fort is known as Lohagarh. It was built in the early 18th century by the Jat ruler, Maharaja Suraj Mal. The fascinating attractions of the fort are extensive layout and royal decoration of Kishori Mahal, Mahal Khas, Moti Mahal and Kothi Khas. The Ashtadhatu (eight-metal) gateway with huge elephants paintings is the other striking feature of the majestic fort. Government Museum: It is a well-known attraction of this place, which is famous for its rich collection of artefacts, exquisitely carved sculptures and ancient inscriptions. Tourists come here to see rare and royal articles like swords, daggers, guns, double barrel guns, long barrel guns, daggers, safety shields and revolvers belonging to the erstwhile rulers. The vast collection of antiques like hunted cubs, bear kids, hunted tigers, deer, wood articles, jewellery boxes, hand fans, stone vessels, dresses and ornaments are other draws of this museum. Bharatpur is a small place but it is an important tourist destination of Rajasthan.
