To ease off tired muscles, we also have a sauna.

Leiden is a charming mix of old and new. The birthplace of Rembrandt, it has long been an important centre of trade and commerce, with one of Europe's premium universities at its heart. Today an important shopping, trade and business centre, Leiden has nonetheless retained its historic charm. Whether you are visiting us at Holiday Inn Leiden for a business conference or leisure event, you cannot fail to be enchanted by the cobbled streets, heritage buildings, museums, galleries and canals that make up this scenic and inspiring city.

With 14 superbly equipped meeting rooms that can hold up to 400 delegates, plus an event hall capable of holding 2000 people, we at Holiday Inn Leiden are as equally suited to hosting science conventions and trade fairs as we are weddings and boardroom meetings.

If you want to know why 2000 delegates would want to descend on a hotel in Leiden, you only have to look at the city's academic history: Pieter van Musschenbroek's famous Leyden jar; Heike Kamerlingh Onnes early forays into cryogenics, in 1913; Albert Einstein's early discoveries and many more. Today, the city houses Eurotransplant, the international organisation responsible for organ donation procedures in the Benelux and beyond. Not surprisingly, large-scale medical and scientific conferences are a part of life here.

Located near the A44, with rapid connections to the airports, we at Holiday Inn Leiden recommend you explore your surroundings on foot. The two branches of the Old Rhine meet in the centre of the town, which is also crisscrossed by numerous canals and leafy quays. A river cruise is the perfect way to entertain your delegates, or you can just take a wander by the canal. The Singel, or Outer Canal, is bordered by lovely gardens like the Hortus Botanicus. The Van der Werf Park is named after a heroic mayor, but was actually created when a ship exploded. Botany buffs should also visit Leiden's famous bulb fields, just outside town.

Other attractions include the De Burcht Castle; the 13th century Gravensteen fortress, the 16th century university; the Hooglandse Church; the Museum Of Fine Arts, the 1860 Leiden Observatory and the Naturalis, a plague hospital that is today one of the largest natural history museums in the world.

We at Holiday Inn Leiden know that business meetings can be tedious however, the combination of Leiden's beautiful and historic city centre, and our superb meetings facilities, ensure that any conference will go with a swing.
