subject: Researching A Home Based Web Business? [print this page] Are you looking into a home based web business? A home based business can give you incredible flexibility most people can't attain with a regular 9 to 5 job. You can work from home. You can work on the road. You can work around your family, another job, or other obligations.
Most people would love extra flexibility, but it doesn't mean it's easy or you don't have to work. To make your home based web business as enjoyable and simple as possible, there are 4 principles to follow.
The number one thing to consider if you're researching a home based web business is the product or service. Choose a product that takes advantage of technology (leverage and automation). Don't pick a product that you will have to personally ship to customers. You want a product that can be sold and shipped every day, all day, whether you're sleeping or laying on the beach.
Don't choose a product or service that requires you to do all your sales over the phone. Again, if you have a sales center, this can be minimized. Don't choose a business that requires employees or a physical office.
Some examples of web-conducive businesses are selling information--ebooks, audios, videos, a membership site or membership club, an internet based training product, or an internet based service, like coaching.
Second, having a home based web business does not mean you can avoid people. Every successful business requires human interaction. You can minimize this if you want, but don't think you can sit behind a computer screen and never have to talk to anyone. Some people can do most of their correspondence through email, but some people will only talk to a live person. If you want a thriving business, you will have to accommodate those people, either by yourself, an assistant, or a customer service center.
A home based web business will require basic technology skills and continued education. You don't have to be a computer programmer, have a computer degree or be very technical, but you will have to learn some basics. You can outsource almost everything, but it will be faster and cheaper to be able to do a few things yourself, like setting up a blog, blog posting, placing ads, uploading or editing a sales letter, managing your autoresponder, and more.
The fourth thing to keep in mind with a home based business is learning copywriting and marketing. Any time you have a business, you're selling something. The better you get at copywriting and marketing, the faster and easier you'll sell whatever you want to! Again, being willing to learn will be a huge asset to your home based business.
Twenty years ago, it was rare to find people who made significant incomes from home. Now, the number is increasing rapidly. It's part of the change happening in our economy and global marketplace. You can now create a second income or replace your first income. Like any business, it takes hard work, but it's easier than it's ever been. Start slow, be patient and you can do it!
