Jamaica Travel Guide

Jamaica is an island country located in the Caribbean near Cuba. With a population of 2.8 million it is the third largest country in terms of population among anglophile Americas. It still remains in the commonwealth with Britain's Queen Elizabeth as the head of state.

The climate in Jamaica is tropical with constant spells of hot and humid weather. Some locations around the island are dry as compared to some which receive pretty good rainfall. Jamaica like other islands is located near the hurricane belt in the Atlantic and faces constant storms around the year. Jamaica is made up of three counties; namely the Cornwall county, Middlesex County and the surrey county. Kingston is the capital city of the island country with other major cities such as Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios famous among travelers.

Traveling

Jamaica has two major airports namely the Norman Manley international airport and the Donald Sangster international airport in Kingston and Montego respectively. Both the airports are frequently visited by travelers round the clock. Getting around the country by train is a true visitor's delight as there is about 250 route miles of railroad in the country. You can also try a road trip by car around the country, although, you would want to take a guide with you in case you are lost. The roads are quite congested in the holiday seasons and can be dangerous for new divers in the city. You can always rent a car as this would be a much easier option and you wouldn't have to spend that much money. Taking boat rides around Jamaica are not advisable unless you want to visit the coastal areas. Also, most of the boats are available from fishermen which cannot be relied upon.
