Wicker Furniture - Timeless And Elegant

Wondering what wicker is? Wicker is essentially applied to slender twigs or shoots similar to willow which are used in crafting baskets or furniture. It describes weaving and not necessarily material though its creation may span various materials. Consequently, any product using wicker and hand-crafted is termed as wickerwork.

In recent times, wicker furniture has become popular for its flexibility and range of designs. It is found in homes, offices and museums. It is unique and distinguishes itself from other types of furniture. There are different types of wicker that are woven to produce hand-crafted and stylish designs of furniture. The most common materials used are bamboo, rattan, sea grass, willow branches, fiber rush, water hyacinth and synthetics. Wicker furniture can be customized and personalized to suit any kind of home and includes different sets such as patio sets, garden dcor sets, dining sets, living sets and bed room sets, to name a few.

This furniture by virtue of being crafted, without using machines, has an innate character that transforms any room. It is elegant and can convert your home as a unique abode. Wicker furniture is available in several collections that span all weather furniture and natural furniture. Wicker furniture can project a timeless and classy feel. However, to ensure that elegant look, you need to oil the wicker furniture at regular intervals. This is to preserve it in excellent condition. Oiling is all the more important if you are placing it outdoors or exposing it to direct sun light.

Oiling the furniture can be challenging several times since it is hand-crafted and woven making it difficult to reach the nooks and corners of the furniture. A good way to begin is to clean it thoroughly first using brushes and vacuum cleaners. Clean it once again with a wet and damp cloth and then allow it to dry. Then you can go ahead and oil the wicker furniture. It is advisable to use natural wood oil mixed with some thinner for the oil to be of lighter consistency. Select a brush and then apply the oil into all the cracks and crevices.

Let some time pass so that the oil can set in and then buff the wicker with a dry cloth to absorb excess oil. Repeat the process twice or thrice idling for at least 2 days between application of each coat. This will ensure that wicker furniture lasts longer and importantly, creeks lesser.

Just as oiling is important to wicker furniture, so is painting. Though wicker furniture may be used outdoors several times, yet it is really not weather proof since it is made from plant fibers. As a result, it is recommended that exposure to the elements be minimized. If that is not possible, then at least, bring it indoors in winter months. Additionally, ensure that the furniture is clean when outdoors.

Net to net, wicker furniture does convey a personalized touch blended with a classy feel. If you are looking for something unique, you may just have found it!
