My previous business was a bricks and mortar retail shop and the contrast with what I am now doing could not be more different. I quite often worked 7 days a week and even if we weren't trading on the Sunday , there was often maintenance to be done , such as painting or new shop fittings or maybe a floor to varnish , so as you can imagine , there was very little time left for my family. Then there were the overheads. Due to our location we had zone A rents and rates to pay , all the start up costs of fitting out a unit , such as shop fittings , roller shutters , electrics and alarm systems. Once we had finished the hard search for decent staff , we then had to pay them , even when they were on holiday and have all the hassle associated with staffing. Lastly , there was the stock to buy , which for our business only had a shelf of 6 months and then had to be cleared , for the whole proces to start again , so if the buying wasn't right we had little chance of making decent money. Now don't get me wrong , it provided a good living for a long time and I enjoyed it , but the recession finally pushed me over the edge , however it's probably the best thing that has happened to me as it has pushed me to where I am now. The direct sales business that I started , which is the best way to make money online , has allowed me to work a fraction of the hours I used to. I can now spend more time watching my 2 boys grow up , choose how I spend my day and not have to worry about 101 other things that used to effect my business. Marketing is now my only overhead , because I am the only employee , I work from a home office and my products are from a partner company , so they take care of that expense. Most businesses don't break even for at least a year , so to find one that could be in profit after only 90 days is a real bonus , so it's got to be worth checking it out.
