As you read around family and health forums on the net, the above question is one of the most common you see, where women wonder what their chances of conceiving are, once they hit 40 or above. To say the least, a lady's chances of getting pregnant start reducing significantly once they get to 35. However, this does not in any way mean anything. You can still make a family of 7 kinds if you want, starting form that age!!
Have 3 grown up children from my marriage, now a toddler and currently pregnant (I am 44). However, it took 2.5yrs to conceive this one - had given up and was trying to accept it wouldn't happen again - I think I conceived as I'd stopped 'trying' in my head. Sounds daft I know but many say the same.
Trying to 'concentrate' on conceiving just made me so anxious every month and then, when it didn't happen, I'd get so low. As time moved on, to near enough 3 years, I was thinking "Menopause, here I come". . . . . miraculously, and very unexpectedly it 'happened'. I know once we are this age, you can only really understand what it feels like if you are in this situation.
If you are trying to conceive, I do think you should not touch a drop of alcohol - I do think at any age, its effects are detrimental to conceiving but at this time, definitely cut it out completely. Take folic acid and/or pre-natal vitamins. Eat loads of fresh fruit and veg. Basic common sense but I really think it makes a huge difference!
