Slow cookers or crock pots are practical to use. They are especially useful for people who just learn to cook or people who do not like cooking because using them are very simple. They are also very efficient and safe. You can leave you food cooking in your crock pot and do something else while you wait for the food to cook. You can even sleep or leave the house while your food is cooking without afraid of burning the house down.

Basically, using a slow cooker means filling it with the ingredients, turn the cooker on, and wait until the food is cooked. You cannot cook all types of food or ingredients in a slow cooker, however. A slow cooker is best used to cook soups, rice, stews, or porridge.

To get your food cooked properly, set the dial on HIGH. Change it to LOW after a hour until the food is done. Each dish and ingredient will need different cooking time. It is recommended that you read instruction for using the appliance from the manufacturer.

If you cook meat, you will need around eight hours for your dish to be properly cooked. It is better to use economical cuts because these cuts taste great when you cook them with slow cooker. Before you put it in the pot, remove the fatty tissue to prevent the fat melting during the cooking. If you want, you can brown the meat before you add it into the cooker to add flavor.

Seasonings and seafood should be added the last. Add them about an hour before the dish is done. You need to add seafood last because seafood cooks very quickly and turn rubbery when it is cooked too long.

Do not fill the container completely so your food will cook properly. Fill the pot two third full. You should also be aware that every time you open the lid, you need to add more cooking time to your dish, so avoid doing this too often.
