If you are on this site and glancing at this article, then you probably have just had a delightful new baby. Colic, indigestion and wind are very common in newborns and highly distressful for their parents. Searching for some colic relief and tempted to check out gripe water? Like to understand precisely what gripe water is, what the gripe water reviews are and what it does?

There are different types of gripe water and differing brands with different ingredients-which brands work better? Find out the facts behind gripe water.

Gripe Water-The Beginnings

The first ever gripe water for babies cure was founded by William Woodward and the Woodward name has carried on ever since. Having been founded in England, its popularity spread throughout Europe and so is found typically in pharmacies or medical stores in Europe, however, it is now gaining popularity across the globe.

Are you confused with the many different kinds of gripe water on sale? The term or label gripe water covers every liquid or solution that is concocted with only herbal products but there is not just one gripe water available although the original gripe water is said to have contained alcohol, dill oil and fennel.

If you are baffled with the variety of gripe water remedies available, I don't blame you! There are many different kinds with many different herbs but the one thing that every gripe water should be is strictly herbal, however, one can debate that there are many companies that use sodium bicarbonate in their gripe water which does not in actual fact fall under the herbal group but can be classified as natural.

Common gripe water ingredients are Fennel, Caraway, Lemon Balm, Ginger, Peppermint, Chamomile, Aloe vera, Blackthorn, Dill, Angelica, Cinnamon and Aniseed. Some contain sucrose which is not recommended for young infants.

Gripe Water Reviews

Why is it that there are so many opposing views on gripe water and its use as a cure for colic? Gripe water has been used as a means to treat colic for a long while, but does it truly work? Can gripe water treat colic and soothe the symptoms of a crying baby? There is no scientific or medically known cause of colic making it one of the most difficult conditions to treat.

The causes of colic have been put down to gas, wind, indigestion, reflux and constipation but these in my mind are just symptoms and not the underlying cause. The best remedy for colic will treat the cause of colic and not just try and ease the symptoms of colic.

Depending on the sort of symptom that your baby has, gripe water may be able to ease it but will not be able to heal the cause of the pain. Treating the symptoms is like taking a painkiller for a toothache but forgetting all about the troublesome tooth which will just get worse or manifest as something more dangerous. Treat the cause not the symptoms!
