subject: Rob Barber And Jon Whitman, future Professionals At The Vision Academy A Paul Mitchell Partner School [print this page] Paul Mitchell Future Professional Profiles from The Vision Academy, a Paul Mitchell Partner School in Allentown and Ambler, Pennsylvania.
Life has been a convoluted journey for Rob Barber and Jon Whitman. At age 18, when his college discovered that he was gay, Jon says, he was ejected from the school and subsequently abandoned by his family. By age 25, he had attended four colleges, studied six majors, and walked away without a diploma in hand, feeling more lost than ever. Robs story comes from the opposite end of the spectrum. Always surrounded by love and support, he dabbled in college but quickly lost interest. A chance meeting near the end of 2002 brought the two together, and six months later, they moved in together.
A couple years later, feeling bored, stagnant, and frustrated with their lives, they accepted Robs parents offer to live with them and go back to school. There, Jon learned the values of a truly loving family and spearheaded their careers when he enrolled in the Vision Academy A Paul Mitchell Partner School. When Rob tagged along for his orientation, he quickly realized he wanted to be there, too.
While in school, Rob and Jon entered Beacon and won their way to the TSA Symposium. As members of the Product Rep Team, they organized and led three product launches, one artistic collection DVD launch, and three color series launches in their school. They joined forces with the Design Team to style hair for two area prom fashion shows, and theyve attended numerous hair shows where theyve had the opportunity to meet educators like Robert Cromeans, Stephanie Kocielski, and Vivienne Mackinder. Outside of school, they take classes on their own time while working at full-time jobs.
After graduation, Rob and Jon hope to find work in salons that embrace the Paul Mitchell culture. They hope to work as Paul Mitchell associates or educators and to one day open their own school. Collectively, we want to reach high within this industry, they say.
