As the New Year arrives it is a good time to review the processes in your business. It has been a hard year through 2009 for most businesses worldwide. The recession has hit most of us and cuts have had to be made just to survive. Even if you are one of the lucky ones, there is no room for wastage in any business. When it comes to looking at costs, most businesses will look at how they can save money in areas that cost them the most. Inevitably, this is often the workforce and many people have lost their jobs or taken pay cuts. In 2009 many of these tough decisions have been made and it is becoming harder to find ways to save money. Every area of your business needs to be looked at. Some of the smaller areas of your business get overlooked as they dont seem to be important but these areas are where savings can be made. Simple things like turning lights off when rooms are not in use, reusing printer paper for notepads, fixing dripping taps, not buying in excess stationery that goes missing. All these things help in their own small way. Another area that gets overlooked is postage. It is an area that is a necessary evil to most businesses and is not often checked for value. Does your business BUY STAMPS at the local post office? There are many online shipping companies that will compete for your business. Why not check on the online postage and review sites to see if you can buy stamp cheaper? Whatever business decisions you make this year dont forget the small things. It may not just be money that you save, you may save your carbon footprint as well. In these times when our governments cannot reach agreement on how to save the planet, we all need to make small changes that may have a wider impact. Even if it is only making your staff more aware of recycling or saving power it will have an impact on your business, albeit in costs or your carbon footprint. A Happy and Prosperous New Year to you all!About the Author:
