subject: E-commerce Solutions [print this page] E-Learning is the use of technology to deliver an enhanced and illustrative learning experience/The use of technology to deliver training is called e-Learning. Students who are taken through e-Learning modules perform better than those students who undergo regular classroom teaching. E-learning can be of advantage for corporate training also.
E-Learning is primarily more cost effective than classroom based training if there are a large number of personnel to be trained/When there are a large number of personnel to be trained, e-Learning can be relatively inexpensive. It would not be very practical to conduct classroom training, when there a lot of field personnel spread over a wide geography. Taking such factors into account, it is then very sensible to develop a module that could be just sent to the field personnel.
An e-Learning segment containing text, graphics, audio and video is a lot more appealing than a plain, uninteresting bunch of printed instructions. There is also the option of a self-paced learning, where the learner determines the time of learning. Many professionals do not have the time and liberty to sit down in a classroom and receive training. Computer based or web based e-learning modules - CBT and WBT - are of great help to such people.
When the same topic is dealt by multiple individuals, ambiguity tends to creep in. With e-Learning this aspect could be avoided. The same type of instructions would be provided for everyone who undergoes the training. And when assessments are conducted through the same media, they are standard and unbiased.
E - Learning does have some limitations like the necessity for computers and internet, requirement for the staff to be computer literate.
