Australia's Diva- Kylie Minogue

It's rare for an artist to dominate the music industry for a decade. But to be hailed at the top for two remarkable decades is a rare feat. This is the case for the Australian diva Kylie Minogue. Not to be mistaken as a mere sexy siren with no talent to boot, Kylie is a powerhouse of talents. She can sing and dance; evidence is her sold out worldwide concerts, various music awards, and millions of copies sold worldwide.

Miss Minogue is not a stranger to the entertainment industry. Unlike other artists who seem to conveniently sprout as an overnight sensation, this miss started way back when she was a mere child in early 80's. She was first recognized as a child actress in the well-received soap opera Neighbours. In 1987, her career started jetting off in motion as a recording artist. Her first single, Locomotion, was a smashing hit that it received the recognition as the highest selling single of the decade.

With the success of Locomotion, she bagged the support of big-time producers Stock, Aitken, and Waterman. She was able to release her debut album, Kylie, the following year. Fronted by the single I Should Be So Lucky, the album catapulted to number one both in Australia and the UK. For the next two years, she enjoyed great album sales and filled concerts for this album. All her first 13 singles enjoyed the top ten spots in Britain. Not bad for starters.

But after four albums, Kylie's star is beginning to lose luminosity. Her singles were still well-received but a wilting album sales indicated otherwise. Despite her attempts to shed off her girl next door' image through more mature albums, the public was losing interest. It was then that she left the care of Stock, Aitken, and Waterman in 1992.

She became an independent artist and wade her way as a credible multi-faceted artist. She took full control of her music and gained recognition in Australia and Europe for it. But it wasn't until her 2000 dance album Light Years that she returned as a world top artist. With her singles Spinning Around and Can't Get You Out of My Head, album sales skyrocketed, not only in Australia and UK, but in the US as well. Tour after tour, people rush to buy tickets to her show, indicating that she's reached the summit of diva success.

But her brightly lit star does not end there. Until now, Kylie remains to be a true diva, despite having to face an illness which is breast cancer. She managed to overcome this challenge and to this day, she remains to be one of the best truly talented performers the world has ever known.
