The Importance Of Corporate Giving

Since the founding of the United States, philanthropy has played a huge role in the way in which our society has developed. Founding fathers Alexander Hamilton and Benjamin Franklin outlined a love of mankind as a cornerstone to building a successful nation. Throughout the history of America, corporate giving has been influential in terms of helping others. Even today, corporate giving has been a way for large companies and wealthy individuals to give back.

Near the beginning of the 1900s, Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller positions themselves as two of the most influential philanthropists in American history. Carnegie, for example, gave away much of his fortune to worthy causes, including funds that built New York City's Carnegie Hall. Philanthropists today include Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft Corporation, who alongside his wife founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This charity helps increase the availability of good healthcare around the world and also works to reduce poverty. In the United States, the foundation aims to help further educational initiatives.

For corporations wishing to give back to their community, there are many options available. These options include but are not limited to helping existing charities through specific endowments or general donations. These corporations even have the option of starting their own foundation. Smaller companies sometimes sponsor local charities in terms of their annual fundraisers.

How does a company pick the cause that they are willing to support? Well, it's important to keep in mind that any charity selected should have good reputation of helping those in need. Some corporations select charities that work with the working poor and some even help fight specific illnesses. Your company may find that helping animals is what is best. No matter what the charity, make sure they work hard and are not fraudulent.

Helping a worthy cause not only helps rebuild your community, it also helps drive economic recovery. Certain causes really help those in need get a hand up towards economic independence. For example, your corporation might choose to give back by starting a scholarship fund. Corporate giving is essential to helping our communities get back on track.
