subject: A 30 Minute Habit That Will Transform Your Online Business [print this page] If there is one thing that will change your business online more than anything else, it would be to take 30 minutes a day to create and syndicate one new piece of content.
Some people drastically misunderstand the internet when they first start marketing their business online - and the biggest mistake that I see people make is they don't understand what drives the internet model forward.
The internet is a simple content engine - the sites with the most original, unique content with the most social syndication ALWAYS get more visitors than any other website. Sometimes, if you look at a site like Youtube or Twitter and try and compare your one month old blog, you might get discouraged, or think that you're missing some kind of 'secret key' to drive your business forward.
Simply put, Youtube has more content and social syndication than your website, and so they have more traffic. The best way that I've seen to gradually increase traffic to your site is to create one new piece of content every single day, whether it is a video, an article, a podcast, or something that someone in your team creates, it doesn't matter.
If you consistently create new content, you'll win in the end. New content and information is more important to the success of your enterprise than perfect keyword research, SEO skills, or technical know how. For example, I don't understand MOST of the technicalities of online marketing, even in the slightest - but my 10 month old blog still is getting almost 3,000 visitors a day, because it has a couple hundred really unique blog posts that have been picked up and syndicated all over the internet.
Eventually, you'll rank for stuff, even if you aren't good at SEO or keyword research - and you can always get good at those things later. For now - focus on just creating information and you'll be off to a good start. Don't get caught up in little details and lose focus of what you're actually trying to do.
Hope that helps - just remember - the internet is a CONTENT engine, regardless of what you sell in your business.
