subject: Post Office Reveals Cheapest Holiday Destinations For Brits [print this page] The Post Office has conducted a recent study to find the cheapest summer destinations for Brits wishing to travel abroad this Summer. It has been revealed that in general, most destinations will be offering better value for money as prices have fallen in the majority of European destinations since last year..
The study tested locations on the costs of various Tourist amenities, working from a list of 12 items of Coffee, Beer, Soft Drink, Family Meal, Jelly Shoes, Sun Cream, Beach Towel, Lilo, Sun Lounger Hire, Pedalo Hire, Bucket & Spade, and Ice Cream. The study revealed Portugal to offer the best value for the Tourist buck with the collected items coming in at 68.80, a staggering 30% drop from last year's findings. Italy came in at the most expensive destination in Europe, doubling Portugal's collective price as findings revealed the cost for the same 12 items in Sorrento would be 141.08.
The second biggest drop price percentage is in Cyprus with the collected items coming in at 21%
cheaper than last year. France on the other hand appear to be confident their visitors shall return and have done little in regards to price cuts, instead increasing slightly by a figure of 6%.
"While Portugal and Spain have slashed prices to attract back visitors, France seems less affected by last years exodus from the eurozone and prices there are now higher than a year ago, commented Sarah Munro, the head of travel money for the Post Office and conductor of the study.
Turkey was the biggest surprise of the survey though, while in the past it has been a famously cheap destination, in the wstudy this year the country came in tenth, two places from the bottom. Turkey has gone up by 12% though this is partially accountable to Sterling's dip in value over the Turkish Lira.
Though many Eurozone countries have competetively fallen in prices to retain traveller, as predictions forecast by the co-operative travel anticipate a dip in Meditarrenean departures from British holiday makers. Instead it is believed that destinations such as Morroco, Tunisia and Egypt shall be favoured by British travelers in 2012. Along with Turkey it is believed that British travellers will be destined to one of these three countries.
Though this year many vacation renal property owners have been impressed by Brit tourism figures, Cyprus has noted a marked increase from last year's figures with villas in Cyprus finding themselves booked until September.
