But then, Dan Brown is used to using religion into fiction, and The Lost Symbol is no different. Masons are a secret organization; and the enormous amount of information about them provided by the author in the book comes as a pleasant surprise. This doesn't mean there are no flaws in the book, and the way the ancient academic knowledge is used in the book shows a confidence from the author which is not explained fully. The Lost Symbol is still a fun read, due to extremely efficient mix of the ancient knowledge with the modern sci-fi.
