One of the great historic treasures of the town of Muiden and Amsterdam, the Muiderslot Castle has now been set to its former glory and is prepared to celebrate its 132nd anniversary as a museum this 2010. Muiden means rivermouth and aptly gives a clue to the castles location and Muiderslot was in a good location indeed, it being used as an ammunitions depot during the Medieval Period and as residence to many prominent figures prior to that evident in its collection of medieval arms, painting and armories. The local government of Muiden had to save this once-decaying castle as it was set for demolition by the Netherland National government before it was declared as an important historical site in correlation to Amsterdam and the town, now reaping its share of tourists everyday. All of its rooms down to its kitchen are now fully restored to its original state when it was built by the count Floris V. Tourists wanting to visit the town can either drive going to the castle or take a bus at Amstel Station which can take one to Muidens town center every 15 minutes.

Exciting things are happening at this once fully-industrial part of Amsterdam. Once full of just docks and ports, Noord now has many architectural structures and landmarks which are are great sights seen via biking, driving or walking. Although it is still considered largely a quiet place, there are now many structures to entice the everyday tourist such as the Tollhouse Garden which has become an experimental artists hangout with a theatre, concert halls, a childrens art hall, a hip-hop school, a caf and a restaurant in its premises. Noord also has the Noorderlicht Caf, which is a beautiful all-glass structure with a terrace facing the River IJ and serves different culinary treats during lunch and dinner. And for those who want to see the different sights through a different perspective, try going for a boat ride through the Pancake Boat which serves you all-you-can-eat pancakes from time of departure to arrival complete with different toppings as well. Like Amsterdam, the city of Alkmaar has so many beautiful sights to behold worthy of a day trip away from the more populous Amsterdam. Alkmaar is considered as the cheese capital of Holland and it has so many interesting sights to take in, apt for a day tour for more adventurous tourists. Different museums are found in this city of canals such as a Beatles Museum since John Lennons first guitar was made in this city, the National Beer Museum, City Museum of Alkmaar and of course, the Holland Cheese Museum. The cheese market in Waagplein has garnered in most of the visitors in Alkmaar, being its most popular attraction. The market is open every Friday from April to September, during which different cheeses are weighed for spectators. But the actual buying takes place in the specialized stores surrounding the area. The city is one huge mall for shopping as different shops, boutiques, cafes quite unique from the typical Amsterdam gift shops are found here.
