subject: Ways To Save Your Business Money [print this page]

Even though the recession may officially be over, you still may be looking for ways in which your business can save money. Why not combine your money saving methods with turning your company green? Below are some ideas to get you started.

Develop a green strategy for your company. Reducing waste from your business will not only reduce your environmental footprint, but will all reduce your disposal cost. Learn what you can about businesses becoming green and involve your employees and business associates to see if they can suggest ways for your business to become agree.

Office supplies are one of the best ways to start the 'going green' process. Purchase supplies that are biodegradable or recyclable so your waste makes little or no environmental footprint. Where possible, use supplies that can be composted, if this is not possible, other tips include, using the product until it cannot be used anymore, using your own mug or glass for drinks to save on paper cups and purchasing recycled products such as recycled paper, refillable pens and other office supplies.

Where possible ship packages to customers using reused boxes, not only are they free, but it also means they are used more than once before they are recycled. If you can, make the initial changes towards making your business 100 per cent paperless. Scanning invoices and orders rather than filing paper copies is a good place to start.

If you have more than once office, cut out your staff's expenses from travelling between sites by exploring video conferencing solutions. The initial cost of the conferencing equipment will still be far less than you would pay for staff's petrol or air miles in a year. The technology would also cut down on staff travelling to business meetings, if they are able to use the equipment when visiting service users or potential clients.

Video conferencing enables quick decisions to be made. Having everyone through the use of video conferencing software, means decisions can be made without the need of each participant meeting in one location, just so they all have a chance to voice their views. Impromptu meetings can take place whenever they are necessary, as you simply call the meeting, set up the equipment and start.

Reducing energy consumption in your office is another way of cutting your expenses. If possible, use fewer gas powered products and if you can, use more electricity generated by things such as solar panels. Easier techniques include opening the blinds to ensure natural light is used whenever possible and making sure you turn all computers off at night.
