Its really great to hear companies doing their share in creating a cleaner and greener environment. Sony Ericsson is one such company and is right now introducing their Greenheart line of phones. The Greenheart line are phones made of 100% recycled plastic and is guaranteed to be free from hazardous materials. In line with this Sony Ericsson has introduced the Sony Ericsson Elm, a basic looking phone with advanced features.

This phone targets the market of people who want a phone that has lots of features, is cheap and yet not a touchscreen smartphone. This is a mid range phone model that is priced so low that you would be amazed once you get to see all the features packed into this eco friendly phone. Lets take a look at some of the features of the Sony Ericsson Elm.

Body: Candy bar, 45 x 110 x 15 mm, 90g

Network: GSM 850 900 1800 1900

Connectivity: GPRS, 3G, HSDPA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi

Screen: 2.2 inches, 256 thousand colour TFT, 240 x 320 pixel QVGA

Memory: 280 MB internal, up to 16 GB micro SD

Camera: 5 megapixel, 4x digital zoom, auto focus

Power: 430 hours standby time, 10 hour talk time

The first thing you will notice about this phone is its curvy and slick design. When viewed facing front you would see an ordinary candy bar shaped phone but try to view it from the side and you would see the beauty of its curve which tapers at the top. The build is solid enough that if you squeeze it you would not notice any loose parts.

Since the primary function of phones is to make calls the Sony Ericsson Elm will not disappoint you. It has excellent call handling functionalities due to its patented NoiseShield technology that eliminates background noise. In an environment with high background noise it can eliminate at most 60 70% of the noise. Video calls are also supported but then there is no front facing camera thus you can see the caller but then they can only see what your primary camera is capturing.

You wont be disappointed with the music functionality of this phone since it shares the same technology with Walkman phones. The SenseMe mode is available as well as the Tack ID which can provide you with detailed information regarding a particular song.

The camera of this phone is not comparable to the mediocre cameras of its class. With its 5 megapixel camera you get a maximum picture resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. The LED flash enables you to take great photos even in environments with low lighting. Once a picture is taken you can easily see that it is of excellent quality and ranks on one of the best photos taken using a 5 megapixel camera phone.

Video recording using this phone would yield you an excellent 30 fps quality. The videos are stored as an mp4 format and the LED flash even activates during low light conditions. Approximately 1 MB of storage space is taken for every 7 minutes of video time.

Connecting to the internet is no problem with this phone since you have different options from 3G, HSDPA to Wi-Fi. Most people would definitely love the Wi-Fi protocol that is included with this phone since they can connect to the internet wherever a wireless signal is available.

All in all this is a great phone to buy. If you are looking for a cheap phone that has advanced functions then the Sony Ericsson Elm is the best choice.
