How To Keep The Workplace And Workers Safe From Fire

Ensuring the safety of the workplace is vitalEnsuring the safety of the workplace is vital. Workers should be able to work comfortably and confidently knowing that they are safe. One of the major workplace disasters is fire. What should you do in case of fire in the workplace? How can fire be avoided?

Companies now are preparing in case there is a fire in the workplace. They engage all workers in fire safety trainings. Fair enough, everyone should be prepared because it is not only the workplace that is at risk of being burned but the workers as well.

These tips will help keep the workers and workplace safe from fire:

In case of fire, stay calm. Do not panic. If you panic, the more that you will not know what to do. Aside from putting yourself in harm, you also put your co-workers in harm. When they see you panic, they will lose control of themselves as well.

Participate in fire drills and fire safety training. Knowledge is power. If you know what to do if there is fire, you can stay calm. When doing fire drills, be serious. Act as if there is really fire. This way, you can really practice what to do in care there is a real fire.

The workplace should have working smoke detectors and sprinklers. Smoke detectors serve as your early warning. If the smoke detector starts to alarm, workers can start evacuating the workplace or sprinklers will be turned on. The earlier the fire is identified, the more chances of putting it out without causing any harm to anyone. Just make sure that the smoke detectors are working properly. Test them once in a while.

The fire exits should be clearly marked. All workers should know where the fire exits are. There should be a workplace plan that everybody can access. Fire exits should be highlighted on the plan.

The location of the fire extinguishers should be marked as well. There should also be an instruction so the workers will know how to use the fire extinguishers.

Stop, drop and roll. Every worker should know this technique. If caught on fire, stop, drop to the ground and roll over until the fire is put out. Never run because that will only spread the fire.

All workers should actively participate in keeping the workplace safe from fire. These tips will help keep the workplace and the workers safe.
