Registering Your Small Business On Google

When you're undergoing internet marketing training, you are going to learn about a lot of different types of internet marketing. Internet marketing is a diverse field which is always changing, so it can seem like there is a lot to learn. It is always best to stay on top of the current trends in the field though. To date, SEO remains the most important area of internet marketing for most businesses simply because of the volume of traffic that search engines provide.

Another area of internet marketing that seems to be growing recently is local search. Local search is SEO that focuses on ranking high in the results when people search for a business in their area. There are two types of registration that you should do with Google to help you with SEO and with local search. These are the registration of your website and the claiming of your local business listing. Sometimes people confuse these two terms, but they are two different things.

Registering your site with Google is an important step in trying to get your site to rank higher in the search engines. Google may index your site on its own, given enough time. However, by registering your site with Google, you can help to speed that process. This is important for helping to get a new site to start showing up in the search engine rankings faster.

You're going to want to go to a place called Google base (http://base.google/com) in order to register your URL with Google. It costs nothing to submit a site. In addition, you have a lot to gain by doing so. When you submit your site to Google, it helps to get the site indexed much faster. Recognize though that registering a site with Google does not make indexing a sure thing. There are sites which might not comply with the terms and conditions that Google spells out, or which are not able to be indexed, such as certain types of Flash only websites.

If you want to register your site with Google, you sign in to your Google base account, and then visit the Settings tab. From there, you want to go to General. You'll see a spot there for you to enter your Website URL, which is where you can enter your site in order to register it with Google.

You can also register your small business with Google by claiming your local business listing. This is an important thing to do as well for a number of reasons. First, local search is being used more often due to the use of mobile devices, which people often use when searching for a business while actually out and about. By registering your listing, you can claim it and put in content such as pictures and videos, as well as text, to help convince people to come to visit your location. This is a great tool because it can help not just get customers to the website, but actually in the door of your business.
