Travel The Quickest Way To Avoid Motion Sickness

Vacations are something we all look forward to having. We've planned and anticipated everything we can think of to have a great and memorable time. The one thing we don't anticipate is getting sick, although motion sickness is something that affects many people when they travel. Motion sickness is nothing new. Many years ago, camel riders in the Bible were affected by their own type of motion sickness, called 'camel sickness', when they became nauseous from the back and forth swaying.

Motion sickness now can be in many different forms such as carsickness, seasickness, airsickness and space motion sickness. More people are choosing to travel by air when they go on vacation because airplanes can transport people much quicker. If they do happen to get sick on the plane, it won't last as long as with other forms of transportation. When they book their vacations, they often choose the quickest route. The quicker they reach their destination, the less time they'll be sick. When traveling by car, they are able to take breaks if someone becomes carsick, but with commercial forms of transportation, they don't always have that option. There are bathrooms on the plane, but often getting up and walking around while the plane is moving makes them even more nauseous.

Airsickness, not a disorder, results in the feeling of nausea brought on by the motion from when the plane travels to higher altitudes. Some symptoms of airsickness are upset stomach, vertigo, nausea, increased swallowing and salivation and loss of appetite. Airsickness is just a normal response from what the eyes can see and what they feel, confusing the brain's normal processing of the senses and what they feel. Many pilots actually experience airsickness, too. From years of flying, they've learned ways to lessen or deal with it.

There are some ways that have been proven to help with airsickness. The two most common causes of airsickness are anxiety and stress. Try to rest lightly and be as relaxed as possible before boarding the plane. Some people, on the other hand, try to avoid sleeping before they fly so they are able to sleep on the plane. You may want to bring along a good book or something that will distract you.

Try to eat a light lunch before you get on the plane. Avoid foods with a high salt content, as salt is said to be a possible cause of airsickness. Make sure you don't eat too much as that may make you sick as well.

Try to avoid moving around any more than you have to as this will often make you more nauseous. Lastly, try to not think about or expect airsickness because anxiety will make it worse.
