subject: 3 Ways to Pick More Winners and Make More Money Handicapping Horse Races [print this page]

If you are one of the many people handicapping horse races and trying to make money, then you probably know just how difficult that can be. Many people are almost making a profit betting on horses but gradually lose their money, always just a little off. Some days it seems just one or two bad bets wiped out all the profit from the good bets and good decisions you may have made.

If you are looking to improve your horse racing handicapping, here are three ways to do just that. Admittedly, these suggestions are earth shattering revelations, in fact, for many they will seem like plain common sense, something you may have already thought of. Like many things we know that are good for us, however, these three tips or suggestions are often ignored, just like all the other things we know that are good for us.

1. The first tip is to keep notes and to refer to them often. You can't remember everything and even if you could, that mental power and focus is better directed at comparing all the factors in horse racing. When I say keep notes, I mean, write down what you bet and why. Then see how your bets work out. After 30 days of handicapping horse races, you will start to see trends and amaze yourself with how you can improve. You will stop making the same mistakes over and over and you will be able to fine tune your thought processes. That little bit may be just what you need to succeed.

2. Do not be an emotional bettor. Betting on horses is hard enough when you are mentally sharp and making the best decisions. If you let your emotions cloud your judgment, you will surely lose. If you suffer a bad beat, lose a close photo, your horse gets bumped hard at the start or the jockey loses his or her whip, and you go on tilt, then take some time off, regroup and start over.

3. Along with taking notes and referring to them, is the unpopular, but necessary, money management issue. Of all the things that will make you or break you at the races, this one is at the top of the list, but surprisingly, the one that is most often ignored. Keep notes about your bets and money. Know how much you have, not only in your pocket for betting, but also in your life and daily finances. Learn how much you can risk and how much you really have to work with then budget that amount over the course of a day, week, month.

By the time you get to this part of this horse racing handicapping article you have probably read each suggestion and agreed with each one. However, if you don't now take action and follow each one, you will not improve and therefore, will not win more money betting on horses.
