subject: Appliances Provide A Rejuvenated Atmosphere And Save You Money [print this page] Is your old kitchen starting to make you sick just to look at? One of quickest, easiest ways, and one that can put money in your pocket is new appliances.
It won't take you more than a few hours to rejuvenate your kitchen and add some color to it with some shiny new appliances.
However, a new and refreshing look for your kitchen is not the only reason you should consider renewing your appliances. Due to the 'cash for appliances' program, if you buy Energy Star rated appliances you may be instantly eligible for a rebate on those that are the most energy consuming. As a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, this program is federally funded with $300 million, but its regulation may differ from one state to another.
It's not a bad idea if you use an internet search engine to check which appliances are eligible for rebate in your state as well as the size of the rebate before you launch your new appliances buying campaign. Amounts can either be a percentage of the cost, or a flat dollar amount, estimated at $50 to $200 per appliance by the Department of Energy.
Unfortunately, residents of several states will have to wait for the program to be initiated until later this year. In the state of Oklahoma, for instance, the launching is scheduled for April 22 and rebates will be limited to one per appliance and two per household. The state is also requiring that the old appliances be removed and properly disposed of, which is not a requirement nationwide. Some states, such as Minnesota, have already begun and exhausted their projected funding for the program.
The rebate funding may be an excellent way to soften the impact the remodeling of your kitchen will have on your budget, but it should not be a decisive factor. New appliances are a good investment even if they don't come with federal funding.
If you replace older appliances with Energy Star qualified models, you can not only give your kitchen a new look, you can save every month on your electricity bill. After heating and air-conditioning, refrigerators are the most energy-consuming appliances in anyone's household, so a new model will be an investment that will pay off every month.
In some states the rebate program may be restricted to certain items, like refrigerators or washers, but even if that is also the case with your state, you shouldn't refrain from paying the extra $600 for a new stove that will definitely improve the look of your kitchen. The change cannot only be cheaper than new cabinets, walls or floors, but is also one that is quick and painless. An all-inclusive renovation of your kitchen can take weeks of constant dust-inhaling and mess-cleaning, plus finding a good contractor will give you a lot of headaches, whereas a simple appliance replacement saves you from all that and achieves quite the same effect: a fresh-looking kitchen. It takes only a few hours of your time and should be done without any of the mess or inconvenience of many other projects.
